YOUTH POWER - THE FUTURE IS YOURS TO WRITE
Asian Youth Festivals 2012 & 2017
345 young people in the age group 13 – 19 yrs, drawn from the weakest sections of society from 17 states in India and 4 Asian countries, were invited to Kolkata to showcase the power of youth and re-affirm their faith in human good. Young Men’s Welfare Society hosted a Youth Festival in 2012, and again on the occasion of its Golden Jubilee, in 2017.
The Asian Youth Festivals provided an arena for the young minds to wander, question and share. Over the seven days we witnessed happiness and fulfilment on every face. The programme included three evenings of cultural extravaganzas showcasing our rich heritage. Some performances highlighted social issues.
UNESCO World Youth Festival 2006
14 students and 3 teachers drawn from YMWS schools represented India at the UNESCO World Youth Festival held at Stuttgart, Germany in July 2006 during the FIFA Football World Cup. The trip was sponsored by UNESCO and the Freunde der Erziehungskunst Rudolf Steiners. A cultural presentation ‘The Wonder that is India’ was staged at several events. Union Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee and the Lord Mayor of Stuttgart Dr. Wolfgang Schuster witnessed one of the performances.
KNIT INDIA - National Youth Festival 2010
350 youngsters, drawn from the weakest sections of society from 15 states of India, attended a National Youth Festival to celebrate cultural diversity and promote national integration. The participants came from as far as Kashmir, Gujarat, the North Eastern states and Kerala. They spent six days together in fellowship and friendship. Events such as these promote tolerance, respect and acceptance of one another.
